You know what’s AWESOME about summer? OK, so there are like a BAJILLION awesome things about summer, but the absolute best is that you can have a sleepover pretty much any day of the week.
When you ask, “Can Chloe and Zoey sleepover tonight? Pretty please with a cherry on top?” there’s no, “Well, it’s a school night dear…”
When you beg, “Please?!? THEIR parents are totally cool with it!” there’s no, “Well, WE’RE not their parents. Our house, our rules!”
You just avoid all that MESSY parental drama and say, “Having a sleepover tonight, k? Thanks!”
That’s what happened yesterday, and it was SO much fun!!
We decided to camp out in my backyard so we’d be COMPLETELY away from technology.
NO cell phones. NO computers. NO TV. I know it probably sounds like that was no fun, but it was actually pretty awesome!
I got the idea to do this during Christmas in July, because I found an old tent in the attic when we were getting the holiday decorations.
When I saw it, I imagined Chloe, Zoey, and I roughing it outside, like contestants on Survivor, trying to make fire and catch fish and stuff. And it was JUST like that!!
Except we got hamburgers out of the refrigerator instead of catching fish, and my dad actually made the fire….on the barbecue. But still, it was SO cool to rough it for a night!
After we ate, we roasted marshmallows to make s’mores and then my dad said he was going inside to watch a movie with my mom and Brianna. That meant we had the WHOLE backyard all to ourselves, with absolutely no one to bother us!
Since it was already dark out, we decided to play flashlight tag first. In case you just moved here from MARS and have never heard of flashlight tag before, it’s basically tag, but in the dark, and use a flash light to find each other.
I was “it” first, and I didn’t find either Chloe or Zoey, but I DID find something else …a big rock on top of a weird dirt pile. And I found it by tripping over it and doing a face plant right onto the grass.
That part stunk! But I was pretty psyched about what I found. As soon as I saw that rock I just KNEW something was buried there.
Chloe was all like, “Maybe it’s some kind of buried treasure!”
Then Zoey went, “Maybe it’s a time capsule from hundreds of years ago!”
I had NO clue what it was, but I was dying to know, so we decided to do a little digging and find out!
Since we only had these beach shovels Brianna left near the backdoor, it took us FOREVER to dig a big hole.
I seriously thought my arm was going to fall off…it was practically shaking!
We were just about to give up when Chloe hit a box with her shovel.
OMG I was SO psyched!!
Right then my mom poked her head outside and was like, “What are you girls up to? You’re not digging in my garden are you??”
So I went, “Yup, you know us SO well! We totally planned a campout sleepover just so we could dig through your garden and plant some hydrangeas when it’s super dark outside!”
Except I said it in my head so no one heard it but me.
Then Chloe said, “We’re just looking for my lost earring Mrs. Maxwell!”
I thought that was kind of funny. As if her earring fell out of her ear SO hard it went below the surface of the earth! LOL!
Mom must not have been too concerned because she just said, “Don’t stay up too late girls!” and then went back inside.
I was SO glad! I was dying to know what was in that box. The suspense was KILLING me!!!
Want to know what we found? I’ll tell you…next week! For now I thought it might be kind of fun to play a little game. I’m going to give you four options, and you guess which one it was:
A. A glass bottle with a note inside
B. A box of money from a different country
C. A toy treasure chest with absolutley NOTHING of any value inside of it
D. None of the above.
Which do YOU think it was??
