I’m SUPER mad at a totally obnoxious six-year-old right now…and it’s NOT Brianna!
As you all know, my sister can be kind of…how can I put this delicately…bratty, spoiled, and more annoying than nails down a chalkboard, during summer school, on the hottest day of the year.
Still, she’s my sister, and I won’t let anyone hurt that little rug rat!
It all started last week when a new girl named Addison joined her ballet class. Brianna told us all at dinner that she’s “the best ballerina in the whole wide world, and she looks just like Princess Sugar Plum!”
In other words, Brianna had a new BFF! She talked on and on about this girl, sounding super psyched and a little obsessed, like someone who just scored front row tickets to a Taylor Swift concert.
Finally, after rambling for about fifteen minutes about “Addie,” she said, “Sorry, Miss Penelope, but she’s my new best friend!”
Then she asked me, “Nikki, can you draw a picture of me and Addie and write ‘BFFs’ on top? And Mom, can you drive me to her house tomorrow so I can give it to her?”
I had a ton of homework, so I really didn’t feel like spending an hour drawing Brianna and Princess Sugar Plum. (No, I couldn’t just do it really quick. I’m an artist! I have standards!)
So I said, “Why don’t YOU draw it? That will make it even more special!”
Then Mom said, “And how about you give it to her at ballet class next week? Then I can talk to her mom about setting up a play date!”
I thought for sure Brianna was going to totally freak out when my mom asked her to wait a week, but instead she said, “OK! Then I’ll have a lot of time to make a perfect drawing!”
She must have worked on that thing for an hour a day. It had paint. It had tissue paper. It had glitter. And right on top, in huge pink letters, it read “Addie and Brianna…BFF!”
I have to admit, it was kind of cute to see her so excited about her new friend. (And I’m not going to lie…I was kind of relieved to think that maybe she wouldn’t bug ME so much if she started having play dates at Addie’s house!)
Yesterday afternoon, right before Brianna left for ballet class, she ran in my room and said, “I need your professional opinion! Is my drawing ready to give to Addie? You think she’ll like it??”
I said, “Yup, it’s a masterpiece! And I think she’ll LOVE it!”
Boy, was I wrong! Brianna came home an hour and a half later looking like the saddest little ballerina there ever was!
She was bawling, with tears running down her tiny face.
I’ve seen that kid cry more times than I’ve seen the inside of my eye lids. Seriously, it happens ALL the time. But this time was different…she seemed CRUSHED!
I asked her what was wrong, and then she told me, “Addie laughed at my drawing! And not only that…she ripped it RIGHT down the middle!”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! What kind of mean, nasty, sadistic kid would do something like that?
So I said, “You must have it all wrong! It was a really great drawing. I’m sure it’s not what you think!”
Then she said, “Oh yeah? Then why did she say, ‘Keep your ugly drawing! I already have a BFF’?”
All I could think was, “Oh no she didn’t!”
Brianna’s still upset about it, a day later, and I’m seriously considering going to her ballet class next week to give this kid a piece of my mind!
But for now, I just want to cheer Brianna up. Anyone have any ideas?
