Christmas, Christmas, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways….
That’s from Romeo and Juliet, that Shakespeare play that involves super intense teenage romance and like, a ton of tragic death.
Seriously, if Juliet lived today, I’m pretty sure she’d be an emo chick with dark eyeliner dripping down her face, because that girl was SUPER dramatic!!
Anywho, back to my point…Christmas was awesome!!
Here, in no specific order, is everything that was flippin AWESOMESAUCE about Christmas this year!
1. Our Christmas tree.
In November, mom was all like, “Maybe we should just get a small tree this year.” I visualized something crazy sad looking, like that runt of a Christmas tree Charlie Brown got in the Peanuts Christmas special.
I was like, “You COULD do that…if you want to RUIN Christmas, then yes, absolutely, Scrooge out and get a house-plant sized tree. I’m all in!”
She laughed and totally agreed, and the rest is history! Our tree was SO massive it would probably crush me if it fell over. All was right with the world!!
2. Houses with awesome lights.
Every year, Dad FREAKS OUT because the Christmas lights are all tangled, and some of them don’t work and stuff. Dad doesn’t swear a lot, but when that massive ball of broken lights comes out, he curses like a truck driver non-stop. It’s hilarious!
Luckily, other people in our neighborhood know how to store their lights right, because there were some TOTALLY awesome houses this year!
This one family had a life-size nativity scene on their lawn, and the whole thing was blinged out like Jesus was born in Vegas. Actually, their whole house was like that.
And get this: they hang out close to the front door like 24-7 and blast Christmas tunes…AND they invite you in for hot chocolate. If that family adopted me, I would totally consider it. I want to live in Christmas Town!!
3. Presents!
I ended up doing an awesome job with my Christmas shopping, even though I kind of stressed about it. I wrote those super sweet notes for my family like I told you I was going to do.
Mom even cried a little! But to be fair, she cries about everything. I think she actually LIKES to cry.
This one time I caught her watching this dramatic Chinese commercial with subtitles over and over again on YouTube. I was like, “Why are you watching this thing for the 80 millionth time?? Step away from the computer!”
Old people and technology are a dangerous mix!
But back to the presents…I got some AMAZING stuff under the tree this year. It wasn’t my exact Christmas list. Translation: NOTHING from Apple. But I got some cool art stuff, clothes, and ALL of the Twilight movies. And then I also got some awesome stuff in my stocking from Chloe and Zoey. I love those girls!!
4. Christmas food.
I started the day with a glass of egg nog and a cinnamon bun, which is clearly a healthy breakfast of champions. Usually mom’s all like, “Don’t you want some fruit to start the day?” And I’m like, “Absolutely…where are the Fruity Pebbles?”
But on Christmas morning, it’s totally cool to wake up and immediately eat tons of sugar. It’s like an unspoken holiday rule: Thou shalt eat badly from sunup to sundown!
Christmas dinner rocked! There was turkey, and stuffing, and squash, and mashed potatoes, and green bean casserole…and like a bazillion pies. And the sugar cookies! I LOVE sugar cookies!!
We actually still have leftovers. Mmmm cookies…
5. My family.
It was just like Thanksgiving with aunts, cousins, and all kinds of people I don’t see all that often. Some parts of it were less than cool…my cheeks still hurt from being pinched.
Why do old people do that when they say you’re so cute? I would NEVER walk up to Brandon and pull his face all out of shape, and he’s the cutest person I know!
But I guess it’s a small price to pay to have the whole family together. It’s like I said before…I love my crazy family! And I think it’s pretty obvious…I LOVE Christmas!!
How was your Christmas? Give me all the details!!
