Last time I updated you I didn’t have time to tell you about my garage sale last weekend. I know the suspense is probably killing you!! LOL 🙂
Let me just start by saying we made a TON of cash. In fact, we made so much that we emptied it all on top of my bed and rolled around in it, like in the movies!
Okay, so that’s a total lie. But still, we made some decent coin!
We got up kind of early, because we read online that you can make a lot of money with early birds.
An early bird is someone who gets up at the crack of dawn and tries to get all the best bargains at yard sales before anyone else shows up.
They’re usually elderly people who reminisce about the good old days “when you could get a hamburger, friends, and a milk shake for a nickel!” as my grandfather says.
Or they’re collectors who think they’re going to find some super valuable antique buried under a pile of old VHS tapes and puzzles.
That wouldn’t happen at MY garage sale though. I’m no fool! If I had some crazy valuable antiques I’d be unloading that stuff on eBay, not on a folding table on my front lawn!
Still, we did pretty well with the early birds!
This one old lady (who was wearing a glittery pink shirt and a purple fanny pack…just to give you a fun little visual!) bought 5 exercise DVDs, my mom’s old sweat suit AND her weird Thigh Master thingy.
I asked her if she was trying to get in shape for something special…just making small talk…and she was like, “I want to be Miss Senior Sweetheart someday!”
I guess it’s like an old lady pageant. That’s so cool they have those!
Then there was this kind of creepy guy with a mustache who was wearing a tracksuit and smoking a cigar.
He got out of this old looking sports car, walked up to the table, and blew his nasty cigar smoke all over our stuff.
So gross!!
I’m SO glad Mom and Dad were nearby in case he turned out to be some total weirdo. Luckily, he was actually a serious buyer with a good amount of cash to spend!
He bought ALL of my old Beanie Babies. I had like 10 of them and he gave me $25 for the whole lot. Score! He also bought this dusty old shawl my grandmother knitted for my mom like forever ago.
I just had this visual in my head of him sitting around in the shawl with a cigar in one hand and a Beanie Baby in the other, and it kind of cracked me up!
We pretty much sold everything except some old books, and we made extra cash selling lemonade. (I know…we’re kind of old for a lemonade stand…but when you’re doing it with a garage sale it’s a whole different thing!)
We ended up making $127!! I gave Brianna $7 instead of $2, because I’m an awesome sister. That left $40 each for me, Chloe, and Zoey!!
That was actually super nice of my parents to let the three of us split the money, just because we all helped with the cleaning.
So to show them how grateful we were, we chipped in and got Chinese take out.
Mmmmm chicken fingers…
So that was last weekend.
I’m thinking this weekend we’ll probably go to the movies and the mall, now that we all have some money to spend!
I wish I could have a garage sale EVERY weekend because making money ROCKS!
