Today I was SO not in the mood for gym! I was super tired because I stayed up late last night having a Twilight marathon.
My mom was all like, “Get to sleep! You’re going to be a ZOMBIE in school tomorrow if you’re up too late!”
I wasn’t fully listening, so I yelled, “It’s about VAMPIRES not ZOMBIES!! And I need to watch this as research for the Halloween dance!”
In the morning, I almost fell asleep while standing at my locker.
When I met Chloe and Zoey in the janitor’s closet before lunch, I seriously considered lying on the floor and using a dirty mop for a pillow. Hey, I was desperate!!
The ONLY reason I didn’t do it was so I wouldn’t get bedhead…well…mop head.
I’m sure MacKenzie would just LOVE that. She’d see my hair all sticking up weirdly, and she’d be like, “Hey DORK, did you sleep in your Dad’s BUGMOBILE last night?? Looks like a spider turned your hair into a BIG NASTY WEB!!
By the time I got to gym class, I was pretty much just sleepwalking. I actually walked RIGHT into the locker room door. OMG I was SO embarrassed! But it’s usually open!
I tried to come up with some kind of excuse to sit it out in gym, but I couldn’t think of anything on the spot. (You know, ‘cause I was so exhausted!)
I ended up saying, “Um, I can’t do gym today because I’m having a nosebleed.” But clearly I wasn’t!!
I should have just said, “Remember when you just saw me WALK INTO A DOOR?? I hurt my head!” That would have made SO much more sense!
I ended up having to play…and it was basketball. I SO wished we would have played dodge ball! Then I could have gotten hit right away and laid down on the bleachers.
But nope! We were playing a game I’m HORRIBLE at, even when I’m well rested. I just KNEW it was going to be a huge, embarrassing mess!
I spend the first five minutes running away from the ball, which is the exact opposite of what you’re supposed to do. I definitely didn’t want to shoot.
I had this horrible vision of me trying to do a slam-dunk but falling asleep mid-air and then just crashing to the ground. I definitely didn’t want that to happen!!
But then all of a sudden, when I was in the middle of the court, this girl Lisa threw the ball right to me! Everyone was looking at me, and I felt so panicked!
I threw it back to Lisa, but she threw it back to me again. Then I did it one more time, and she threw it to me AGAIN! She must have been just as clueless about basketball as me.
I looked over and saw Brandon looking at me, and I was super nervous that maybe he thought I was a total spaz.
I decided that THIS was my moment of truth! I HAD to get that ball in the hoop. So I ran across the court while attempting to do cool dribbling things.
I tried to dribble it under a leg, but it ended up rolling over to the bleachers. After I ran over and picked it up again, I decided to just run to the hoop and throw it in.
Everyone was yelling stuff at me, but I couldn’t really hear what they were saying. It just sounded like they were cheering me on, which actually made me feel super excited! Like I was a rock star or something!
When I got to the hoop, I jumped up and it felt like everything was in slow motion! I made this loud grunting noise when I threw the ball, like I was some hardcore athlete making a SUPER HARD shot.
When I landed back on the ground I was SO relieved I hadn’t fallen asleep mid-air, like I feared I might…and even MORE EXCITED that I got the ball in!
THAT’S when I realized what everyone was yelling at me…I threw it in the wrong hoop! Man that was EMBARRASSING!!
Have YOU ever done anything embarrassing in gym??
