MY CRUSH LIKES SOMEONE ELSE! ☹️

Hi Brandon,

I need your help! I’ve had a crush on the same boy like FOREVER. But I just found out that he’s crushing on somebody else! Should I stop crushing on him? HOW?!

Catastrophic Crush-tastrophe

Hey Catastrophic Crush-tastrophe,

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. It’s a major bummer. When you have a crush, there’s always the exciting hope that they might feel the same way. But if your crush likes somebody else…well that hope is kinda…CRUSHED (no pun intended). ☹

You ask if you should stop crushing on him, like it’s that easy. If it IS that easy for you, then yes, you should. Mostly for your own sake, because watching him go on and on about the girl he already likes is going to be SO hard if you’re still crushing on him. And also because you don’t want to be the kind of person who gets in the middle of that sort of thing and tries to control who he likes or doesn’t like. Please believe me, you control another person.

But the fact is, I’m afraid you also can’t just flip your crush feelings off like a light switch either. I mean, I’ve never been able to. Most people can’t which is why crushes are so complicated sometimes. Life would be a lot easier if we could, am I right?

So how do you get over your crush? Or at least handle him liking someone else without too much heartache?

  1. First, let yourself feel sad. Express those feelings in a journal or playing music. Try telling your dog, cat, fish or whatever pet you have about it. Whatever. Let the feelings out. It’ll be a lot harder to move on if you skip this step.
  2. Try to limit how much you have to be around him, especially when he’s going on and on about this other crush. That might mean unfollowing on social media, so you don’t see posts about it or photos of them together. It might mean sitting somewhere different at lunch when you’re back in school. There might be situations you can’t change, like if you all have classes together, but just do what you can to forget about it.
  3. Stay busy. Start a new hobby, learn a new language, or Skype your grandma. Whatever it takes to distract you so you don’t have time to sit around thinking about your crush.
  4. If you have friends who know about your crush, tell them you’re trying to get over it and remind them not to bring him up around you. You might even ask them to stop talking about crushes altogether, just for a while.
  5. Finally, give it time. That’s the most important thing for getting over crushes, I think. It’s not going to happen overnight. But it WILL happen.

What are your tips for getting over a crush? Do you stop crushing on someone if they like somebody else? Tell us in the comments!

    Hi…
I have some advice for you…
    Speaking from experience ☹️
Anyways, having a crush and being crushed about him/her is unfortunate…
It’s not really easy to not like your crush anymore.
I want you to know that life isn’t easy.
It’s not fair but that’s how life is.
Anyways, I had a small crush on a boy and he I’m pretty sure likes someone. There was something I knew. The person I suspected that might of liked, liked him.
    Me and my friends _ _ _ _ and _ _ _ _ _ _ suspected it together.
I asked her myself and she said she liked him.
She told me not to tell anyone else. So I told no one else to this day.
You guys don’t know her name though. So you don’t know who it is.
I think _ _ might read this and sort of recognise it.
Also if she is I don’t like anymore, he’s all yours.
    Anyways… back on topic.
It’s easier to like someone in your class.
I believe that if your in their class than you most likely might have a crush on them.
Also his name was also Brandon.
I think that you should move on and focus on school.
Have relationships when you have a job, it’s easier.
I also know that it’s hard
I hope that you feel better soon

Hey, Catastrophic Crush-tastrophe. I’m So Sorry That you are going through that. All I can say is, Been there, Done that, Got the T-Shirt! I totally understand you because this has happened to me before. This feeling SUCKS! All I have got for you is, try to avoid him and then he will get the point that you don’t want to be near him anymore. (Even though you do.) Then maybe he will think that something is up and then he will ask. (This might not happen!). You could also write him a letter telling him how you are happy for him about his new crush. Then he will be a bit shocked about it and then he might reconsider. (AGAIN! This may not happen!). Or, just tell him how you feel. Trust me, This can make it better or worse. I understand that it will be VERY embarrassing. And I would probably do it but, I would be SOOOO nervous inside! I hope that this was good advice!

That’s so sad. But I would just get over it. Or… you could hope that it’s just a rumor and that it’s not true.

I’ve never had a crush, but for some reason, once I got into middle school, I see boys as cute. Is that weird? Anyways, I’ve always had a strong mind, because one day I wanted to see this one CCP boy as cute (even though he wasn’t) and I had a crush on him for a day. Then I got bored of having a crush so I decided to UNcrush on him. Crazy, right? :)))

As a guy, I’ve learned a thing or two about girls just by hanging out with my friend, Nikki. So, go ahead! Tell me what’s on your mind! I’ll answer a question each week and post one of the cool pics I’ve personally taken of the kids at my school.
