Dear Nikki,Horrible Halloween Hang-Up
I’ve got friends from my soccer team and from school. Each group is asking me to have a Halloween party with them by Zoom. Normally I would say YES to both, but here’s the problem—they’re two separate parties that are happening at the SAME exact time! I love hanging out with both groups, but I don’t know which party to choose. Plus I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings! What should I do?!
Hi Horrible Halloween Hang-Up,
I love Halloween too, and I totally get why this is a tough situation for you! Last year, Madame Bri-Bri tried to make me choose between having a Halloween party with HER or Miss Penelope (Yeah, seriously. That conversation was NOT the most fun start to my Halloween).
I’m guessing you and your teammates have become great friends during practices and games. Being part of a team is really special, isn’t it? So YES, hanging with them on Halloween sounds awesome! (By the way, did you know that there’s a book series about soccer called The Kicks that’s written by a real-life soccer player on the USA National Team named Alex Morgan? You might want to check it out!)
On the other hand, hanging with your friends from school sounds SUPER fun too! And since you may spend TONS of time with your soccer friends during practices and games, maybe it would be fun to hang out with them for a change.
Okay, my overall advice is to consider the following things:
- Try going to BOTH parties!😀 Not at the same time, of course, since that would be REALLY tricky (and totally awkward). But try Zooming with one group of friends and then stop and Zoom with the other. Just make sure that you’re setting enough time aside for both parties.
- Is the party with your soccer friends open to everyone, or just members of your team? If it’s open to everyone, then maybe you could include your friends from school in on the fun! Or, try the other way around—see if you can invite your soccer friends to the party that your school friends are having. That way, ALL of your friends get included and nobody’s feelings get hurt! And hey, the more the merrier, right?!
- The third point is that sometimes, parties are only for a particular group, team or club and guests aren’t allowed. If that’s the case, then try my first suggestion which is to hang out at both. Or just let one group of friends know that you look forward to hanging out with them after the party or on another day.
Again, I think you’re a really great friend and it’s a GOOD thing that you have so many people who want to spend time with you. I think whatever choice you make will be the right one!
That’s all the advice I’ve got for today! I hope you have a Happy Halloween 😀!!
Okay, readers, your time to chime in—have you ever been invited to two parties that were happening at the SAME exact time? What did you do about it? Also, just out of curiosity—if you’re dressing up for Halloween this year, what’s your costume? Tell us all about it in the comments!
